House committee to take up new tenure bills
The House Education Committee today announced it will meet this week to take up four bills dealing with teacher tenure, teacher placement, and additional prohibited subjects of bargaining.
The bills -- House Bills 4625, 4626, 4627, and 4628 -- are not yet available for public review.
The committee will meet Tuesday and Wednesday to consider the bills. On Wednesday, committee members will listen to a presentation on "education reform and teacher quality" by Frederick M. Hess of the conservative American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research, a Washington, D.C.-based group affiliated with Newt Gingrich, Lynne Cheney, and others.
