The Michigan PTA is slamming back against accusations that it violated its tax-exempt status when it endorsed Proposal 2 to protect collective bargaining and the voices of working families.

It's been clear throughout this election that shadowy, special interest groups with lots of money have been bankrolling various state candidate elections and ballot proposals. One of those shadowy groups is one we're familiar with in Michigan--StudentsFirst--which donated $500,000 to the campaign to defeat Proposal 2.

In a tele-press conference and news release yesterday, the Protect Working Families coalition called on news outlets to pull the latest 30-second TV ad by Citizens Protecting Michigan’s Constitution blasting Proposal 2—the constitutional amendment to protect collective bargaining and working families. The ad is full of lies, making outrageous claims of what Proposal 2 would do and attempting to scare away voters.

Collective bargaining in the auto industry featured in new POJ ad

The Protect Our Jobs campaign has released another ad today. "Rescue" is a 30-second spot featuring an auto worker discussing how collective bargaining saved the auto industry.

Small Business Support

Over the past 18 months, politicians in Lansing have made it more difficult for small businesses.  Although promising to reduce regulations and pass incentives to create jobs, they have, in fact, created an environment that reduces jobs and threatens the average worker’s ability to purchase goods and services from small businesses.  Decisions about wages, benefits and working conditions that were once made at the bargaining table between employers and employees have been taken out of their hands, causing workers to have less money available to spend at local businesses.

Constitutional amendment to protect collective bargaining

Over the past 18 months, politicians in Lansing have attacked collective bargaining and the rights of workers. In doing so, they have attacked workers’ families and small businesses.  It’s time that middle class families speak out to protect the jobs, wages, benefits and safety of all working people by voting YES on the constitutional amendment to protect collective bargaining.
