LANSING, Aug. 12, 2009 – MEA President Iris K. Salters today testified before the Legislative Commission on Governmental Efficiency, a panel that is looking at scores of ways to balance the state budget. Salters attended the group’s public hearing at the state Capitol; several hearings have been held statewide. The panel is considering cuts to many programs, including public education. Among the ideas listed on an interim list is one to put all public employees in state health plans and another to eliminate the Michigan Promise scholarship. A final report is due by Oct. 1. Related:
