Mandated 20 percent worker health care contribution passes Senate committee
Legislation making every public employee pay at least 20 percent of their health insurance passed a Senate committee this morning.
SJR C and SB 7 won approval from the Senate Reforms, Restructuring and Reinventing Committee on party-line votes.
The bill impacts cities, townships, counties, villages, school districts, intermediate school districts, charter schools, public universities, community colleges, the state and any other public employee.
The legislation allows cities, townships, counties and villages to opt out of the requirement with a two-thirds vote of their governing body. A Democratic amendment to allow school districts to have the same option was rejected.
