Other legislative activity this week:

With the Legislature’s summer break on the horizon next Thursday, the rush was on to pass a variety of legislation in the state House to allow the Senate to consider the bills next week:

  • HB 4777 was reported by the House Local, Intergovernmental and Regional Affairs Committee. The bill amends PERA to make the decision to consolidate local government services a prohibited subject of bargaining.
  • The House passed HB 4496 this week that would allow community colleges to grant baccalaureate degrees in nursing, cement technology, maritime technology, energy production technology and culinary arts. Concern was raised that the bill would “dilute the mission of community colleges,” while supporters believe the bill would make community colleges even more accessible and affordable.
