Swift: EPI study promotes Proposal 2 benefits
In a Detroit News opinion editorial, Michigan AFL-CIO President Karla Swift points to a new study by the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) suggesting that “collective bargaining is the process we should turn to in order to negotiate a better future for our state.” The EPI study links the decline of the middle class to the erosion of collective bargaining in Michigan.
Swift points out the benefits everyone enjoys because of collective bargaining and encourages a YES vote on Proposal 2 to keep workers’ voices strong.
Critics of Proposal 2--like Citizens Protecting Michigan Taxpayers--haven't let up with their fear-mongering ads. Funded by shadowy corporate front groups, they continue to paint a distorted picture of collective bargaining, unions and teachers with their lies and misinformation.
