The Legislature is on recess until Tuesday, Nov. 28 for the hunting/Thanksgiving break, leaving Lansing without having taken further action on two bills MEA has been monitoring:
– SB 574, which would allow charter and cyber schools to receive a cut of regional enhancement millages, remains on the House floor. Contacts from educators and parents opposed to this legislation have created opposition to SB 574 on the floor of the State House.
– HB 5141, which reduces the certification requirements for career & technical educators to only a high school diploma and a professional license, is still in the House Workforce and Talent Development Committee along with the rest of the CTE package.
Please take a moment to send a message to lawmakers about these important issues using the links above. And while legislators are home over the break, please make sure to attend their coffee hours and talk with them about these issues, as well as the controversial gun legislation.
