MEA member in Bridge: Educators innovating despite lack of federal support

Educators across the state and nation are coming together to find innovative solutions for e-learning, despite a lack of support from Betsy DeVos and the Trump Administration, wrote MEA member Chris Thomas, a teacher in Ann Arbor Public Schools, in a recent column for Bridge Magazine.

“Through the platforms and networks of MEA and NEA,” Thomas wrote, “I have been proud to help lead a strategic effort to bring desperately needed training on tools and strategies for remote teaching to nearly 20,000 educators across all 50 states over the summer and into the fall.”

Thomas, a 20-year veteran educator and expert in blended learning and educational technology, said that “DeVos could take concrete action to provide resources that will increase the capacity of educators nationwide to deliver high-quality remote learning opportunities for students.”

“Instead,” Thomas wrote, “she has chosen to advance her divisive agenda favoring vouchers and privatization at the expense of the public education system she is supposed to lead.”
