The tax plan that House Republicans hope to rush through Congress next week is a terrible deal for middle class families and students which will lead to cuts to public schools and overcrowded classrooms.
The plan is an enormous tax giveaway to corporations and wealthy individuals like Betsy DeVos, funded on the backs of students and hardworking, middle-class people. In fact, DeVos has publicly praised the plan – a sure sign something is wrong with it.
Tell Congress you’re opposed to middle-class families and students footing the bill for massive tax giveaways for the wealthy. Here’s how you lose in the Republicans’ plan:
- Elimination of the $250 tax deduction for educators’ out-of-pocket spending on school supplies
- Elimination of state and local tax deductions that could threaten thousands of school employee jobs in Michigan
- Creation of a national voucher scheme that steals funding from our public schools. DeVos called the voucher shift in the tax plan a “good start.”
This tax plan is a gift for the wealthy like Betsy DeVos, and it will hurt our schools and students, especially those in under-resourced communities.
