Brett Smith

Brett Smith became vice president of the Michigan Education Association on July 15, 2023, having previously served as secretary-treasurer since 2017.

A fifth-grade teacher from Linden Community Schools in Genesee County, Brett served as president of the Linden Education Association, as well as in other local, state and national leadership roles.

Brett has been an MEA member since 2000. Before becoming an educator, Brett gained business experience working for General Motors and Ameritech.

Brett earned a bachelor’s degree in business finance from the University of Michigan-Flint and a master’s degree in science of administration from Central Michigan University. He earned his endorsement in education administration from Eastern Michigan University.
