Hard Won, Not Done

On or before Election Day on Nov. 3, it’s crucial that MEA members – and your family and friends – vote for pro-education, pro-labor candidates.

The last time Michigan had a pro-education majority in the House, Senate, and Governor’s office, educators made great strides to regain rights and create a brighter future for students. This included:

  • Fixing the state’s broken teacher evaluation law.
  • Restoring prohibited subjects of bargaining, including teacher placement, evaluation, support staff privatization and more.
  • Rolling back the unfair tax on retired school employees’ pensions.
  • Implementing free school breakfast and lunch for all students.
  • Increasing investments in student mental health support, student loan forgiveness for educators, school safety, educator recruitment, rural transportation and more.

These victories were hard won, but we’re not done. We can either continue this progress in 2027 by regaining pro-education control, or education opponents could undo all of these gains. Learn more or share your story at MEA.org/HardWonNotDone.
