Andrew Monroe, 2026 Art Show award winner.

The Michigan Education Association and the Michigan Art Education Association hosted the 62nd annual Art Acquisitions Purchase Awards exhibition, showcasing the artistic work of MEA teachers.

The exhibit featured a variety of media, including paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, and jewelry.

Andrew Monroe, an art teacher from Fraser, won best in show. Monroe said the event offers a chance to see educators in a different light.

“I think it’s really special to celebrate people for more than just what we see on the day-to-day, because you learn a lot about people,” Monroe said. “As an art teacher, I learn a lot about my students by looking at their artwork. It’s kind of a window into their life, and that’s evident in the artwork that we see here today as well.”

The MEA Art Committee organized the event with the help of volunteers and a professional juror, who presented awards across various categories.
