On March 12, House Republicans passed a resolution stating they would not present Gov. Whitmer with nine bills being held from December’s “lame duck” session – including HB 6058, which would lower skyrocketing out-of-pocket costs for public employee health insurance. At the same time, under the leadership of Speaker Matt Hall (R-Richland Twp), the House GOP caucus appealed a judge’s decision that the state constitution calls for them to send the bills to the governor for consideration. These actions set up legal action in the next few weeks in higher Michigan courts – stay tuned for updates from MEA.

In the meantime, MEA is working with the Michigan AFL-CIO and other labor partners to collect online petition signatures calling on the House Republicans to present and for Gov. Whitmer to sign HB 6058 and the other held bills.
