State revenue estimates up – Time to send federal relief funds and more to schools, students

State economic experts agreed last Friday that tax revenue is stronger now than previously anticipated – to the tune of $2 billion more for this year and $1.5 billion next year.  That’s in addition to federal pandemic relief funding from the American Rescue Plan, which totals more than $4 billion for public education alone.

This news should prompt budget action in Lansing, but Senate Republicans continue to delay action to distribute federal relief money to the schools and students who need it.  Visit www.MiSchoolRelief.com to look up how much hangs in the balance for your district – and then contact your senator.  It’s time for Senate Republicans to work with Gov. Whitmer to get these funds out so they can help students recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
