Ask legislators to support bill fixing teacher evaluations

Teacher evaluations are broken — and it’s time to fix them.

The state Legislature is expected to take up legislation this fall to do just that by making teacher evaluations more fair and constructive. Senate Bill 395, introduced by state Sen. Dayna Polehanki (an MEA member and former teacher), is expected to receive a committee hearing soon.

Please contact your state representative and senator and urge them to vote YES on Senate Bill 395.

If passed, this bill will:

  • Make teacher evaluations subject to collective bargaining.
  • Eliminate the requirement to include student growth and assessment data.
  • Remove punitive aspects of the teacher evaluation system to instead focus on constructive professional development
  • And much more.
