MEA announces remaining statewide recommendations for Supreme Court, education boards

EAST LANSING – Following an earlier announcement about continuing recommendations for several incumbent candidates, the Michigan Education Association on Tuesday issued the following candidate recommendations for the Nov. 8 general election:

  • Michigan Supreme Court: Kyra Harris Bolden
  • State Board of Education: Mitchell Robinson
  • Michigan State University Board of Trustees: Renee Knake Jefferson and Dennis Denno
  • Wayne State University Board of Governors: Danielle Atkinson

In March, MEA announced its continuing recommendations for the following incumbents seeking re-election this fall: Justice Richard Bernstein for the Michigan Supreme Court; Pamela Pugh to the State Board of Education; Marilyn Kelly for the Wayne State University Board of Governors; and Katherine White and Michael Behm for the University of Michigan Board of Regents.

In December 2021, MEA announced continuing recommendations for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Attorney General Dana Nessel. In addition, a list of primary election recommendations for Congress, State Senate and State House is available here.

Recommendations in statewide races are issued by MEA’s Statewide Screening & Recommending Committee, comprised of MEA members from across the state who conducted interviews and reviewed candidate statements on key education and labor issues facing school employees. All candidates from both major parties were invited to participate in the process.
