Advocacy

Advocating for students, school employees and public education is at the core of MEA’s mission.

Legislation – To be successful in lobbying lawmakers in Lansing and Washington for pro-public education policies, MEA members need to participate in the process and make their voices heard.

Political Action – All education decisions are political decisions because they are made by elected officials.  Electing friends of public education is essential to ensuring Michigan has the public schools that all students deserve.  (This section is available only to MEA members due to campaign finance law.)

Building Full Capacity Locals (BFCL) – This program ensures that MEA’s 1,100 local associations are operating as effective advocates for their members and students, including regularly scheduled trainings and resource materials to help locals assess and build capacity.

Great Lakes Center for Education Research & Practice – The mission of the Great Lakes Center for Education Research and Practice is to support and disseminate high quality research and reviews of research for the purpose of informing education policy and to develop research-based resources for use by those who advocate for education reform.
