Statement of support for Gov. Whitmer’s continued handling of public health crisis

EAST LANSING – The following can be attributed to MEA President Paula Herbart regarding MEA’s continued support of Gov. Whitmer’s handling of the COVID-19 crisis and the need for decisions going forward centered on public health protection:

“As Michigan citizens continue to follow Stay Home, Stay Safe orders designed to flatten the curve of COVID-19 infections, everyone’s sacrifices on behalf of public health warrant a serious conversation rooted in facts and science as we move forward.

“Given the important decisions on the horizon surrounding when and how to safely reopen schools, parents in our state expect their leaders to put partisanship aside and work across the aisle to make decisions in the best interest of families, students, and educators.

“MEA continues to support Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s decisive handling of this crisis.  She is committed to bringing together leaders in health care, business, labor, and education to make sure we do what’s necessary to keep all of us healthy and safe.”
